The Fear of Fox! Oh, PUHLEEEEZE

Fox's Sandstorm

The in-your-face right-wing partisanship that marks Fox News Channel's news broadcasts is having two dangerous effects.

What? The truth may be heard? Free speech may mean hearing an opposing viewpoint?

The first is that the popularity of the approach -- Fox is clobbering its direct competition (CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, etc.) -- leads other cable broadcasters to mimic it, which in turn debases the quality of the news available to that segment of the TV audience.
WELL!!! How dare they, we can't have that now can we?... Oh, no! Competition for the left wing bias of the "real" news media!

The second, far more dangerous, effect is that it threatens to destroy public confidence in all news.

Huh? I thought Dan Rather did that? Hmmmm... Call me crazy! ( I know, I am setting myself up... go ahead, take the shot! )

Read the full article if you must read this dribble! Notice, I am telling where to find the full story, not just giving you my side. I believe we all should get both sides of a story, research, and draw your own conclusions... Of course the left just thinks you should hear their side. No need for an opposing viewpoint.

I belive the "liberal media bias" theory is a full out myth. Politicians on the left or right naturally will promote "their" side of the story. The job of the media is sort out rhetoric from facts. FOX does not do this at all and uses the liberal media bias theory as an excuse for their poor journalism.

If they TRULY believe there is a liberal media bias out there, wouldn't the best, most reposnsible, admirable thing be to present a truly unbiased coverage?

CNN and The New York Times are not liberal media outlets. I haven't seen any evidence to support this theory.

Are you kidding me? Even the communists and socialists I know agree the NYTimes is left wing and biased.

You are right however, the "news" media should be truly unbiased. Present ALL the facts, and let the public decide the truth. However, I don't think ANY news is truly unbiased these days.

As for Fox... Yes, they are biased. But their fair and balance slogan just means showing the other side compared to the other media. The truth is, you should watch Fox news and say CNN and decide for yourself. You dont' think the media is biased because you agree with the side and the facts as they present them and you ignore the other side, either because you don't know it, or you don't believe it. However, they conveniently only give the facts that support their side or just mention at the end of a story or article a brief statement of the other side.

I think I will take articles and show the bias in them.

I stand by my assertion that there is no liberal media bias, and even if there were, why would one choose FOX as an alternative? If the liberal media bias is offensive, isn't FOX's just as offensive? C'mon, at least admit the supposed bias of CNN et al is debatable. FOX's isn't.

News stories are covered by humans, and all humans have biases, so it will be difficult to completely remove any personal perspective from a story. But it is the job of the journalist to do so. I agree with William Raspberry's opinion that FOX is dangerous, if they are legitimizing openly biased news coverage.

If CNN is biased, I don't want to watch them OR FOX. I want the coverage FOX advertises but doesn't deliver: reporters report; let me decide.
